Unexpected Faces!

Picture it.

Somewhere in Iraq at the height of Operation Desert Storm.

It’s dark.

It’s raining cats and dog.

We’ve got a couple of POWs.

We just took them to the collection platoon for processing.

In the middle of all this, one of our prisoners looks at the NCO running the collection point and says, “Oh, hello, Rich. How’s the family doing!”

They’d been roommates in college years before.

There was some serious back slapping and how you doing going on there as two men on opposite sides of the equation of war rejoiced in seeing each other.

That left the rest of us going “Did that just happen?”
