I was a bit of a weird kid.

And I always seemed to be just a few steps behind my peers. While they were developing an interest in girls, I had my nose stuck in a book and thinking of the stars.

So, the story I’m telling here was told to me by my buddy Phillip. Like me, he was always a little behind everyone else.

But I’ll let him tell the story.

“That changed one evening. A cousin of mine had an extra ticket to a concert up at Adams State College and asked if I’d care to tag along.

“So I went.

“I’d Never heard of the group which wasn’t surprising. I was raised on diet of Country-Western. The kind where you listened to both kinds of music. And more than a little of it was out of date.

“Rock? I’d seen the Beatles on TV.

“Classical? My folks referred to it as “Funeral Music,” and that might explain why I’ve developed a deep love for Bach, Mozart, Ludwig Von, and almost anything even close to classical.

“Well, anyway, we went into Plachy Hall where the concerts were played. The basketball court had been covered with a cloth that would protect the flooring and a large stage had been erected up against one wall.

“We’re sitting there, waiting for the concert to start and I’m looking around.

“Near a door, and talking to one of the campus cops is this girl drinking a soda. She was a vision. Gorgeous dark hair. Big Eyes. A dream girl in a flowered print dress. I looked at her and smiled, thinking now there’s a reason to study hard and get in college.

“She saw me looking and smiled at me.

“Embarrassed, I turned away.

“A few minutes later, the lights dimmed and a voice announced, “Ladies and Gentlemen. Let’s welcome the Stone Ponies!.

“With a roar of approval, the band took the stage.

“On the stage, belting it out, was the girl in the flowered dress. Not only did she look like an angel, but she sang like one, too!

“I was entranced.

“Years later, I’d realize I’d been enamored with the one and only, Linda Ronstadt!”
