Cook a meal!
And I don’t mean pull something out of the freezer, read the instructions, and pop it in the microwave.
I’m talking about making something. Something basic.
Like a good breakfast.
I learned to cook in self-defense. Unlike Julie who could give Bobby Flay a run for his money, I’ve had a spouse who burnt water and a mom who had no clue what salt and pepper was. So, I learned.
I got a book and started there.
I talked to chefs, cooks, people who knew their way around a kitchen.
I listened when Julie said, “This is a saltshaker. . .”
This is Life 101 stuff, and a lot of people can’t do it. Ot maybe they’re afraid to try!
Here’s a simple one.
A little something that here in America, we call Breakfast (yes with a capitol B)0.
You go to the store. You buy meat. You buy sausage. Milk. Potatoes. Whatever you need.
You fry up the sausage. Cook well. you don’t want to eat pork rare, even medium. Cook it well thru and thru.
You peel the potatoes, or better yet just wash them well with the skins still on so you keep all the vitamins. Cube or shred them so you can make hash browns. Toss in a diced or shredded onion and maybe a bell pepper. Put them in a skillet, add some oil, salt, pepper, maybe some garlic salt, and fry until done. Stir often.
How do you know when they’re done? The potatoes don’t crunch when you bite into them. And if they’re a little brown, don’t sweat it. Carbon is good for you.
Fry up a couple of eggs. Sunnyside up. Over easy. Scrambled. All the same. sprinkle a little salt and pepper on them. As long as the eggs aren’t a swamp, or you could play tennis with them, they’re good.
Put it all on a plate.
And if you fill really motivated, make yourself some toast. Highly recommend having some jam or honey to put on it.
Pour yourself some coffee.
Like green chili, hot sauce, or salsa? Remember to buy some at the store.
And enjoy because you made it.
Afterall. It is Breakfast!
And you’d be surprised how many people can’t do something so simple.

It’s good you learned about cooking, Richard. I guess it’s beneficial for you.

Funny that you chose breakfast, Rich.
I tell everyone that you can cook anything if you just learn how to cook eggs properly. (funny aside- a few weeks back Wife and I were watching a movie where Lead Guy says exactly that!- forgot the movie though….)
Being pseudo-retired, I do 90% of the cooking now.
Wife gives me off on Saturday, though! WAHOO!!
Dinners for the past few days:
Fr- “Hawaiian” bbq chicken stuffed green peppers (filling= shredded bbq chicken, peppers, onions, pinepple plus juice, Dinosaur garlic/honey bbq sauce, and 2 shots Honey Jack) over wild rice
Sa- Sausage chili (chistorra sausage, corn, onions, peppers, etc) add half-fried rice to skillet/pot, add cornbread to side
Su- (the power was out so we went out for tacos al pastor and fried papas at our favorite taco joint, then Mexican style cannoli for dessert)
Mo- Cheesesteaks, air-fryer potato wedges, buttered/seasoned corn
Tu- Spinach ravioli (NOT homemade) with Alfredo sauce (homemade), big side salad and garlic bread
We- Grilled steaks, seasoned baked potato, steamed/buttered asparagus and sourdough bread
Th- Grilled boneless chops, baked with creamy mushroom sauce over rice, side of raspberry/mustard broiled brussels sprouts
Fr- I have NO idea… better get back in the kitchen soon!
I take pictures all the time, but can’t share them in here.
Unless I add them to “My Blog”… which I’m still hesitant to start writing in since once you put it out there… it’s out there.
Maybe if I stick to just sci-fi and food, I’ll be okay….
