Share a proverb you think is completely wrong and make your case.

“The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.”

It’s true you know. You stand and you look and it always looks better than what you got.

But there might be a reason for that. A reason you don’t want to know.

So, you tear through the fence.

In the place I was raised, this means a barbed wire fence. Going through it always involves a few cuts and bruises. You run the risk of falling and hurting yourself or getting something caught up in the wire you’d just as soon not have happen.

Then you get over to the other side, and you stand, bruised and bleeding over the green spot.

And discover it’s over the neighbor’s sewer and the top cover has pretty well rotted away.

You tumble in,

And you find the worst mess you’ve ever been in.

Covered with the stink all over you, there’s no going back.

So maybe the old adage should be amended to read, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence because it’s over a sewer.”

And just maybe that’s why there’s a fence there to begin with.
