Describe a risk you took that you do not regret.

Flashback. 1992.

I’m fresh back from the Gulf War.

My first marriage has crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.

I’ve just found out my children are in danger from her boyfriend.

I’d already hired a lawyer to handle things by remote control during the war. I came home on leave before going to my next assignment and discovered my world had taken a turn I didn’t expect. It was supposed to be a nice, friendly little divorce.

It was about to explode when I found out what was going on.

So, I called him, and set up an appoitment.

When I walked in, sitting behind the front desk, is the single most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

It was Julie, and I’d already spoken to her twice on the phone. Each time we spoke, there was always a nagging thought that I needed to pay attention here. Something important was about the happen.

She welcomed me, introduced herself, and when I shook her hand, I did the smoothest thing in the world. I kissed it.

How’s that for total weirdo!

The long and short of it was, after everything that had happened, I was through with relationships. I intended to retreat to some Army base, lick my wounds, and probably never allow myself to be put in the position again.

But there was something about her.

I’m more than glad I took a chance.

She turned me from a hurt little boy and into a man.

Thanks, Love of my Life!
