Easy answer.
To hell what people think and do things that help improve it.
I recently got challenged to do just that.
At the end of May, our local Zoe’s Coffee Shop is hosting an Arm-Wrestling Competition. It’s to raise money for a local non-profit called “Your Story.” This is all about therapy for children who have been victims. They learn to talk out their pain in a safe setting and to overcome it.
So, what happens is I’m talking with one out Police Officers and our Outreach Pastor. The officer who is named Austin says, “Hey Rich. How about you and me?”
Austin is just a little shorter than me, but is built along the same lines as Conan, the Barbarian.
I’m still tall and in good shape but I’ve lost a lot of the muscle mass I carried when I was younger.
Oh, speaking of being younger, I have at least forty years on Austin.
Translation. Don’t place any bets on my winning. If anything, I expect to be flipped clean out of the chair.
But it’s given me an excuse to at least attempt to get some of the old body back. I’m up to whooping five pushups (I used to be able to do well over sixty).
And the money’s raised goes to helping the kids. As a combat vet, I know how useful it is to talk it out.
Sadly, kids shouldn’t have to do that. But that’s the world we live in.
And frankly, it stinks!
Moral of the story. Do something. Even if you end up looking like a fool at the end.

You’ll get ’em. I’m wondering if Austin and I can turn this into a comedy.
