The next book in the Lawman Saga come out on the 15th.
This one is a little different in that while Will plays a significant part in it, he’s not exactly the star of the show. There’s others who are the focus of the action. And it’s not even his job to figure out what the heck happened.
That’s the job of other people.
it’s just his job to clean up the pieces.
During all this, he finds himself asking a very important question. At what point is helping someone too much?
Flashback to the previous book, Event Horizon. What’s happened is one of Will’s best friends, a man he thinks of as a brother, has just busted RJ Madril’s nose. RJ is another man Will thinks of as a Brother.
Without screaming at him, I had nothing left to say.
Max finally broke the awkward silence. “Are you going to be able to help me out of this?”
I thought about my answer. If I talked to RJ he’d drop the charges. It wasn’t because he’d want to do Max a favor. He’d do it because I asked him.
But what message would that send if we let Max off? What would that say to the community? That it was OK to take a swing at a cop?
Leniency was something I didn’t dare show in this situation.
Notice what Max said. He actually expects Will to do something to help him out.
What Will comes to realize in My Brother’s Keeper is he should have let Max sink long ago.
