Our city, to clamp down on speeders, has started using unmarked cars. The tactic is simple. They park it someplace, people go by, and speeders get a ticket in the mail. Couldn’t be easier.
It doesn’t always work because of intelligence sharing. People have learned what the vehicles look like, and they share locations on social media.
But it must work well enough since people then complain about speed traps like they did nothing wrong.
I applaud the city for at least trying. More than a few people think our city streets are the Indy 500 and they’re Formula One drivers. Or they approach it from the POV that laws were meant to be broken.
But years ago, someone came up with a way to drive and not get speeding tickets.
He took out an ad in Popular Mechanics that read just that: “Send me $10.00 and I’ll tell you how to drive and not get speeding tickets from the police.”
And the floodgates opened. People sent the man tens of thousands of dollars to learn this revolutionary secret he’d found.
And he delivered on his promise. He told them exactly what to do in a single sentence. I will share his revelation with you here.
“Obey the posted speed limit.”

Yeah but if you obey the speed limit on the interstate you’ll get run over! However on city streets it’s possible to comply without aggravating all the other drivers.

Yes, indeed, obeying the speed limit is a smart thing to do, especially when driving in town. On the interstate, you will definitely get passed a lot. I got two warning tickets for speeding over all the years I’ve driven, and almost always drive the speed limit now. For quite a while in the past, stoplights in town were timed to the speed limit, so if you drove the speed limit, you wouldn’t get a red light.
