Future Optimism vs. Realism: A Personal Perspective

I’ve always looked forward to the future. What can you expect. I was nurtured on Star Trek which showed a world where we’d solved the majority of a our problems. Humanity had grown up and moved out to become citizens of the Universe.

But that was a long time ago. Optimism has been replaced with caution. idealism substituted with knowledge that humanity will live up to its lowest common denominator.

Instead of a world where common sense has taken hold, I see a world where anger rules.

Instead of a world where people are valued, they’ve become a commodity.

Simple respect for one another is in decline.

Tools that were meant to turn us into one big talking family have instead been used as weapons to build separation.

Truth is whatever someone says it is.

From where I sit, I worry about the future my children and Grandchildren will grow up into.
