Daily writing prompt
What countries do you want to visit?

I haven’t been around the world as much as I wish I’d been. In a lot of cases, the places I’ve been held the possibility that I’d be shot at the second I stepped off the plane.

But If I were to just be to go and visit places, here’s my list:

  • Canada – I’ve always thought it was just totally wild and beautiful. I want to see that.
  • Australia – Same reason.
  • Egypt – Call this a bucket list thing. I flew over Egypt on my way back to Germany from the Gulf War. At one point during the flight, we were told if we looked out one side of the aircraft, we could see the pyramids. I decided that looking at such grand structures from thirty thousand feet had to be a disappointment. So, I didn’t. I want to stand at the base of the grandest of them and be totally awed by it. I did get to see Alexandra from the air. I want to walk its streets.
  • Mexico – Forget the tourist traps. I want to go to the Aztec ruins. Climb to the top of one of their structures and look upon the remains of a great civilization. And I want to remember the words Shelly penned in Ozymandias – “Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!” While his works were meant to impress other kings, the words are also a warning. All Civilizations die.
  • Peru – The tenacity of the people.
  • I would love to go back to Germany and visit it again. Problem is, it was home for three years. I don’t think it would be the same.
  • Basque county – To see it. And that my wife has roots there.

And that pretty well does it for me.
