Daily writing prompt
Who are the biggest influences in your life?

Asking that question is a little like wondering why the sun warms your skin, but I’ll take a crack at it.

Top of the list, The teaching and life of Jesus and the scriptures in the Bible. The word of God provides the wind which drives this ship I call my life. It’s the stars to help plot a course and a map that shows me where the reefs and sandbars are that could wreck me. And more importantly, it’s the words from the Captain of that ship that helps me thought the storms and sunshine.

Another big influence is some of the men and women I’ve known. Some were WWII vets who went out and fought for our nation. Others stayed home and fought the battle of the market or the farm. They’re members of what’s been called “The Greatest Generation” and they’re the yardstick I’ve measured myself against.

Lastly, there’s my beautiful bride. She keeps me grounded, encouraged, and directed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if I were married to Julie when I was in the Army, I’d be twenty-four star general by now. What can I say. I’m one of those lucky people who married their best friend.
