It’s a question a lot of people ask. Sadly, it’s a question without an answer.
Most people express regrets, going back and fixing one thing in time. They miss the point. That event might have been what made them who they are right then and there.
Consider. I’m the son of a rancher. I knew hard work in the blistering sun or the freezing cold. Could I have tried for a softer, easier Life?
If so, I might not have been able to tough out almost impossible situations.
Should I have tried harder in college? Maybe I’d have graduated top of the heap and been able to go off to NASA and ride a rocket.
Then I’d never have met Julie, the woman who is not only my wife, but my best friend.
Maybe I should have purchased land, cows, became rich,
Then maybe I wouldn’t have had any use for the God who made me.
So maybe I should have turned left instead of right. Maybe I should have said no instead of yes. I am the sum of all my triumphs and failures, my successes and mistakes. I arrived here by both brilliance and stupidity,
I am me.
And I’m happy with who I am.

I wish many others could say the same.

There’s a quote I really like from Douglas Adams: “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I ended up where I needed to be.” I try to remember that quote whenever regrets start weighing on me.

I’d forgotten that. Good one to keep in mind.
