The story tells about the experiences of Sheriff Toby Madrid (then Cpl. Toby Madrid, USMC), and his part in the Dog Drop Bomb Test in the 1950s.

That was the Sheriff. When I knew him he had a mustache. There’s a much later picture of him in one of my Bad guys of the San Luis Valley posts.

Hi Romana. As I’ve said before, he was a remarkable man. I want to visit his grave one day and pay my respects. I’ve some sand from Kuwait to pour on it. It was his outfit that liberated that small country after all.
