Daily writing prompt
Do you ever see wild animals?

Considering I live in a suburban setting, you’d say the answer would be no. But that would be a lie.

Here in West Greeley, we see many animals. My backyard is a haven for squirrels and birds. The biggest surprise was several years back; we had a wild turkey making its way across the yard. And occasionally, we get alerts of bears and even once a mountain lion in the area.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was years ago, I was driving down 20th St past Aims Community College. The place was the usual hive of activity with students going from point A to B on the campus, but what caught my eye was what at first glance I thought was a dog ambling across the lawn in front of the Admin Building.

On second glance, I realized it was a fox.

And the campus is within five blocks of my house.

The oddest thing that happened was a few months ago. We used to have several cats in the area. I saw them all the time on our Ring cameras. Then they all vanished.

Missing-kitty fliers flooded the area, but none have cropped up again.

I’ve a feeling their disappearance might be related to foxes in the area. And that’s why I got out with our puppies at night.
