The Meaning of Home: Personal Reflections

The ideal home would be the one I met Julie in. We met there. We fell in Love there. And we lived the first 8 years of our lives together there.

She was built in 1877 and made of railroad ties. I found that out when installing central heating. I went through six sawsall blades goring through just enough make an opening for a pipe to go through.

She was decked as an old two story farmhouse, and we loved working on her.

My fondest memory of the place is kneeling on the porch. The old roses bushes were in bloom. The smell of lilac blooms filled the air. I had a ring in my hand and I asked her if she would consider being my wife.

A lot of people believe that we have a mansion waiting for each of us in heaven. Keep the mansion. That house was my idea of home.

If I can’t have the Starship Enterprise, I’d happily take it.

It was home.
