For openers, it wouldn’t be above ground.
When we first moved to Greeley, the town pretty well ended at 47th Avenue. Beyond it was a few homes and the community college. There were open fields and meadows where cattle and horses lived.
That was a little over twenty years ago.
Today, the community extends all the way down to highway 257 almost two miles away. Where there were open fields and meadows, there’s homes that all look alike. Apartment complexes have sprung up like weeds. And shopping malls have filled in every little notch and corner that isn’t being used. How much junk can you really buy?
And how many high rise office buildings do we really need. If COVID taught us one thing, it’s that the technology exists that we don’t need to be building them anymore. the technology exists so we don’t need to be doing that anymore.
Moving underground has some advantages. First, a community would have to be really planned. It would offer more shelter from the elements. Temperatures would be fairly constant.
Maybe I’m just getting old.
Or maybe I learned that most people have a funny definition of the word “Progress” and we need to think about doing something different.

Progress can seem to be harmful at times. That may be just for us older folks.
