For that matter, any day of the year. About the only way I’d eat it is at gunpoint. Even still, I might tell them pull the trigger.
Sometimes called Tripe, I’ve just never been able to eat the stuff. Maybe part of the problem was I saw it cleaned and scraped fresh from the animal.
Interestingly, I have a problem with eating any of the internal organs of an animal.
Liver, forget it. I just can’t eat it.
Heart? Same story.
And don’t get me started on brains. I refuse to eat anything something once used to think with.
But I remember smelling Menudo being cooked on New Years day. It was enough to get me sitting outside in the freezing cold.
As for the old threat of “Eat it or go hungry!”
Hunger wasn’t a bad route to go, I thought.
Besides, I know how to make a PB&J.
NOTE: Since I never bothered to commit the recipe to memory, this is the best I can recall it. Only my people used hominy rather than potatoes.
