A continuation of the interview with Sheriff Will Diaz. Will Diaz is the central character in the four novels that currently make up The Lawman Series. The fifth book is expected out about Christmas of 2025.

Rich Muniz – In your fifth book, My Brother’s Keeper. . .
Sheriff William Diaz – Oh, you mean the one at Huntley Manor?
Muniz – What?
Sheriff Diaz – Just jerking your chain, Rich.
Muniz – Thanks. Thought you were losing your mind there.
Sheriff Diaz – Not yet. But please go on.
Muniz – In it you told a story of how Max almost put the team in danger.
Sheriff Diaz – Oh yeah. I’m not sure if he put us in danger. But he sure crossed the line on a big red rule. You see, Max looked at rules as they were meant to be broken.
Muniz – Such as.
Sheriff Diaz – A rule laid down on us from the beginning was we don’t carry firearms on the street.
Muniz – Who made up that rule?
Sheriff Diaz – CID did. And it makes sense. Most soldiers don’t own a firearm. And those that do, are required to keep them secured in the arms room if they live in the barracks. Well, Max went out and bought himself a snub nosed 38 from one of the many pawn shops in town.
Muniz – He carried it?
Sheriff Diaz – He did. He felt he might need some protection against these guys.
Muniz – Why?
Sheriff Diaz – I don’t know. I know neither Jonesy, Terri, or I carried. It just made sense we could cause more trouble for us than we needed.
Muniz – So what did you have to defend yourselves with?
Sheriff Diaz – Well, Terri was worth a platoon of fire power on her own. But out primary means of defense was our Mark I brain and our mouths.
Muniz – Did anyone ever find out Max was carrying?
Sheriff Diaz – Yes, and in the worst way.
Muniz – Tell me about it.
Sheriff Diaz – Max had a buy set up. He always had a buy set up. So the whole team was in the bar watching him. He was flirting with one of the dancers, kind of dancing along with her. That’s when the worst thing that could happen happened.
Muniz – What?
Sheriff Diaz – His gun fell out right there in front of everyone in a crowded bar.

The gun falling out in a bar is bad, but at least he didn’t shoot himself in his foot.
